Metamorphoses is a collection of short stories that explore the idea of life as a series of transformations.
Characters change and are changed by the people and circumstances they encounter. Many wake up and discover that things are not as they once were, and they must adapt to a new reality.
In “Dialogue,” a victim of a car-jacking imagines having a telephone conversation with her assailant. In “Remembering Laura,” a grieving friend tells her story in counterpoint with the stream-of-consciousness narrative of Laura, who keeps secret the fact that she is dying. And in “The Woman,” a tourist is vexed by her inability to transform the life of a beggar she encounters.
Metamorphoses also illustrates how every life is a collection of stories waiting to be told. Thus, as they share in the richness of each character’s experience, readers may discover their own stories they may tell.
“Emotional odysseys of characters who come to
crossroads in their lives…an aesthetic and most
satisfying read.”
— Elaine Barden, PhD, Montclair State University, Montclair, NJ
“A treasure of a book.”
